Alexa Villas Residents say, "Thank You" to our soldiers!

On July 5, 2008 the following letteer was received by Doug Rogers from the American Red Cross:

Friends and Supporters

Alexa Villas

The Villages, FL 32162

Compassionate organizations play an essential role in the quality of assistance the American Red Cross is able to continously provide to service men and women servind in Peeeraation Iraqi Freedom.  Captain McGhurkan forwarded the care package of comfort iems sent from Alexa Villas to our office on 4 July 2008 for distribution to troops serving around Baghdad, Iraq.  Your vital suport is greatly appreciated by our organization, but it means even more to the men and women who rely upon the Red Cross to help them stay connected with the United States.

Your heartfelt support ensures that the Red Cross can continue to provide a touch of home to our troops, whenever and wereever we are needed. Thank you again for your generosity.

Kind regards,

Lynn Pentecost

Team Leader, American Red Cross Baghdad Iraq

In conjunction with a unique ministry of Hope Lutheran Church, Barbara and Ron Strong  and Judy VanHove and Doug Roger  (and a host of behind the scenes people) headed up the Alexa Operation.  We (Alexa NeighborSuccessful!!
See pictures in Photo Album!s) put together 108 Ziploc bags (original goal was 50 - such a go-give community we live in- I'M PROUD!) full for our military men and women.   The bags were chock full of goodies such as throw away cameras, socks, soaps, shampoos, snack bars, cookies, candies, telephone calling cards, books, playing cards, sunscreen, dental products, personal hygiene products, popcorn and more donated from our Alexa neighbors! This ministry to our active troops encourages them in their mission by reminding them that they are neither overlooked nor forgotten though far from home.

Below is an excerpt from the Hope Lutheran Church March 15-16, 2008 Newsletter:

"The March collection of Ziplock bags has been awesome! With great care, you prepared individual packets for U.S service men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they are on their  way now. The neighborhood of Alexa Villas alone, sparked by the enthusiasm of Doug Rogers, prepared over 100 bags, each containing gifts and personal notes.  . . . Thank you all for your support of this uplifting ministry.  We ask God's blessing on the gifts you have prepared and on the recipients as they enjoy their benefits.

A thank you was received from Master Sergeant Frank Pelaccio for our support and items from Operation Ziplock that were sent to him to distribute to the 'wounded warriors.' "
