I Recommend/Don't Recommend
Because. . .
Mallory Square
this is
your
website.
We are all looking for good places to eat, merchants who perform a
service well, service businesses that do a good job, etc. . . auto mechanics, golf cart mechanics, painters (as in walls),
handymen, landscapers, decorators, restaurants, drycleaners, hamburgers, desserts, window-washers, etc,???
We want to hear what and
who you liked! Share the good stuff! Tell us so we can share it with your neighbors!
We will also post negative items provided you are willing to sign your
name to the article.
These are not
endorsements by this website, but recommendations and NON
recommendations from individual Mallory Square
Residents.
Don't buy Golf Carts from this man - he
misrepresents what he has for sale.
|
His name is Marc Castonquay, phone # 352-638-0351.
He lives on 15660 SE 92nd Court, north of CR42.
Advertises in the Daily Sun. He has 2 other
complaints against him with Seniors against Crime,
so it would seem he is a seasoned liar/scammer. No
one should buy a golf cart from him. Judy Van Hove
strongly recommends that you do not purchase golf carts from him because he gave false information
about the cart he was selling her.

Hi, my name is Adrienne Schmitz
and I live in The Villages. I
would like to request that you
include this recommendation on
your website under the "I
Recommend" section. They did a
fantastic job and I think
anyone installing a putting
green would want to consider
them (this is obviously a very
expensive home improvement, so
having a very well satisfied
Villager could be of help in
their choice):
We had a fantastic experience
dealing with Putters Edge Custom
Greens. They just installed a
putting/chipping area in our
backyard. We researched and met
with several putting green
companies (and went to see & try
their putting greens where they
had been installed), and felt
that their product was the best.
Terry Elkin and his installation
crew were wonderful to deal
with....prompt, professional and
very courtesy. We love our
putting green and have no
hesitation recommending Putters
Edge to anyone in The Villages.
Please feel free to email me
at:

or call me at: 561-762-0676 if
you have any questions. To

I highly recommend "divine shine" window
washer... his name is Doug Karst,
he is a village resident, and he did an
awesome, unbelievable job on my
windows... purchased my house back in 2006
when they were selling faster
than they could build them... my windows
were never properly cleaned after
construction, and I was too lazy to wash
and scrape the paint off... this
guy did a magnificent job, at a very low
price... call him before he realizes
he is not charging enough!!! 314-603-5725 or

I have
been buying all my vegetable and fruit from an
organic farmer out in Pedro and I would like to
share this with as many people in The Villages
as possible. I know you will be pleased with
everything you get from him. His prices are
very low and everything is organic. No
chemicals what so ever.
Fernando
de Marcos 352 615-4775 Hwy 42 one block East

you have gone too far. Call him if you need
better directions. He is open M-Sat 8-5.

Thanks for posting this for me. I’d love to
help out these people.
A pickle ball acquaintance recommended a man to
me who pulls weeds and trims trees and shrubs
for $15 an hour. I used him and found him to be
extremely motivated. He worked diligently and
did the hard stuff without a complaint. Turns
out his sister does manicures and pedicures and
haircuts AT YOUR HOME. She has given me two
pedicures and I was completely satisfied. Her
cost was better than competitive at $20. She
brings all her supplies and was very clean with
her tools. They are both lovely people and
I recommend them to you. They are Village
residents too. Dora and Geraldo 753-5398.
You may mention my name if you like.

If anyone is interested wiring for surround
sound, High definition TV, additional cable
outlets, I highly recommend: Precision Sound,
Donny at 352-2674799. This guy goes the extra
step, is very knowledgeable on any stereo wiring
system and is prices are reasonable plus the
quality of his work is superior.
We have used him to run an additional cable line
& to wire our surround sound plus place speakers
in the ceiling. He has also competed work for
two neighbors and they were extremely
satisfied. He was so kind to meet them at
Circuit City to pick out a high definition TV,
and a receiver.

My neighbors on Troy Loop and Princeton
Place have been passing around an
excellent painter. He
comes in, moves all furniture, paints,
and then cleans up without you knowing
he was even there. He is very meticulous
and offers creative ideas. His price is
very reasonable but his finished work
is outstanding.
His name is Delmar , "Master Painter" ,

I highly recommend this fine gentleman.

If
anyone is looking for excellent house cleaning
services, I highly recommend Geicilane
(Jennifer) Santos. Along with her
step-daughter, they are hard working and
conscientious, as well as personally neat and
tidy. Jennifer's husband, Gerson, is an
outstanding tile man who does regular tile
installation and also excels in
specialty/creative tile work. They are at 16767

NOTE - NEW POST 5/27/10 re.
Isabella’s Restaurant. Isabella’s closed
and there’s another restaurant in its place now.
Friends told us recently that the new place is very
good. We DON'T RECOMMEND
Isabella's Restaurant. 6 of us went there for
an "all you can eat buffet" which was priced at
$17.95 per person. We found a note on our
table in very rude language informing us that we
only had a specific amount of time to eat. The rolls
were hamburger buns and the meat was rationed.
We were not pleased at all with the food.

I would like to share this information with my
neighbors, in case any of them are experiencing
this same problem. I noticed that it seemed to
be taking longer and longer to get my clothes
dry even tho I was careful to clean out the lint
area each laundry day.
I called a Janitorial service I learned about
thru The Villages and he came out this morning.
There was a piece of shingle in the pipe coming
down from the roof and when he went up on the
roof, he learned that there was a screen over
the pipe. The screen was almost solid with
lint. He took it out and brought it down to
me. He said I didn't really need the screen as
there was a flap that opened and closed when the
dryer was in use.
He charged $45.00 for this service.
It is Covenant
Janitorial, LLC, his name is Desmond Harris, he
is the owner, a very nice man. Phone:

A NOTE FOR THE I DON'T RECOMMEND LIST.
IF YOU RECEIVE A FLYER FROM ALL AMERICAN AIR & ELECTRIC
FROM OCALA, BUYER BEWARE. A YEAR AGO WE
PURCHASED THEIR MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT. DURING OUR
INSPECTION THIS PAST JUNE AFTER ONLY 10 MINUTES
EVERYTHING WAS CHECKED AND SAID TO BE OK.
NOW WE ARE IN SEPT AND WE NOTICED
WATER IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FURNACE. WE CALLED ALL
AMERICAN AND THEIR TECH PERSON TELLS ME THE UNIT WAS
INSTALLED WRONG AND THEIR TECH IN JUNE SHOULD HAVE
CAUGHT IT. AFTER
SAYING HE COULD FIX IT AND LEFT US WITH A BILL. WE
STILL HAD THE SAME RESULTS. UPON
CALLING TO HAVE SOMEONE COME BACK AND CHECK, WE NEVER
HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN.
WE THEN CALLED SUN KOOL PEOPLE WHO
INSTALLED THE UNIT. NOTHING WRONG WITH UNIT I
UNDERSTAND. ALL AMERICAN IS FAMOUS FOR THESE TACTICS.

We
highly recommend Egner’s Exterior Cleaning.
They
have cleaned the outside of our house, gutters,
windows, and fencing and did a wonderful job for
an extremely reasonable cost. They also will do
concrete if desired for a separate price. They
use no pressure...no damage washing.
You can
call them at 352-728-8537 to schedule an appt

We can add a
positive "I recommend" from our experience getting
blinds installed. We contracted 48 Hour Blinds by
phone before we closed. Told them our sales
person's name and number (for access prior to
closing) and asked for an estimate. They got back
promptly and were very easy to deal with. And after
discussing colors etc. on the phone, we decided to
go along with their recommendations. Told them when
we were closing and asked if they could meet us at
walk-thru. They showed up on time and installed all
blinds while we were closing on our house. We came
back to the house just as they finished, and the
blinds were perfect. Color, sizes, everything. And
the price wasn't bad either, less than $1,000 for
all (Gardenia Plan).
We highly
recommend 48 Hour Blinds!

If

weddings and has created a fun “Village” version of
“Name that Tune” Party. She did it for our Alexa

My Red
Hat group had Debby Ahaus, the owner of the new
Merle Norman store at Colony Plaza as a speaker.
She was excellent and offered us great make-up
tips and all the ladies free makeovers. I
recommend her if your group needs a speaker - or
if you just need to update your cosmetics.
When I
went to get my free makeover, she was not pushy
and did not try to sell me a lot of cosmetics
that I won't use. Her philosophy is to have a
satisfied customer who'll return in the future.
All your colors and product choices are kept on
computer, so if you go back later (as I did) and
want something else, she just looks up the
correct product and color.
She
also sells Vera Bradley (check out the cute ID
holder for only $10.00!), jewelry and cute
shoes that have interchangeable straps.
Check
her out!

Slim
and I just added another golf cart garage, a/k/a
a storage room for all my "stuff". we HIGHLY
recommend Fortin Construction
Company (750-0478).
They met and exceeded our highest expectations
from start to finish. we have built and added
on many homes over our 37 years and have never
experienced such good service, communication and
quality from all craftsmen that did their
respective part. A friend at church raved about
them and i thought she was a little nutty until
I received the same superior service. Stop by
soon to see it, as I will be filling it up floor
to ceiling very soon.

| I recently contracted a
gentleman to paint my lanai and gave him half the
fee to purchase supplies. (Yea, I knew better) I
have not seen him since. (Surprise) But I really
thought him reputable and wondered if anyone has
seen him or has a working number for him as he said
that he did several of the driveways in the
neighborhood. (And no, I don't want to buy any

I recommend that you not
do business with the company by the name
of the "groomer" . . . Village Paw
Spa Country Club for Pets.
The groomer who owns the place
quoted me $33.00 for each dog. I
asked for puppy cuts and for her to
cut Harley’s hair short on the top
of his head and not to cut Rena and
Mariah’s braids. She trimmed their
bodies (longer than asked for) and
did nothing on their faces or heads.
Instead of charging me $33.00 each
as quoted, she said the charge was
$110.00 and then changed it $105.00.
I spent 2 hours Wednesday evening
re-cutting and trimming.
I didn’t have time to go to the shop
and talk to the woman so am using
the web to let others know what a
poor job she did on all 3 of our
Yorkies. We definitely will not go
back there. Nell Heselius

Thai Ruby-Check your bill!
I want to thank the
person who posted a warning about Thai Ruby. My husband and I ate
dinner there last week and as he was about to add the tip, I said,
“let me check that.” Sure enough, there was an extra charge. I went
up to the desk to inquire and the lady at the desk told me that they
automatically add a 15% tip regardless of number of people at the
table. I don’t have a problem with this as we would have left 20%.
HOWEVER,
this is what they do or should I say not do. They do not inform you
verbally of their policy when you are seated or when they give you
the bill and it is not printed on the menu. If we had not checked
the bill, we unknowingly would have left two tips totaling 35%.
They cover themselves by having an 8x10 sheet of red paper with the
their policy clearly stated at the desk….HOWEVER,
it was hidden from view and she had to take it out from behind a
stand holding menus and other printed materials to show it to me. I
noticed that when I returned to my table, she put it back behind the
stand. The purposely leave it out of your line of sight. If you go
to Thai Ruby…DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR
BILL and ask if they have already added the tip.

NO STARS FOR VILLAGE BLIND AND SHUTTER
Mary and I
do not recommend
Village Blind and Shutter because they install poor quality blinds and
charge a $50.00 service charge to have a technician come to look at them
even if the blinds are under warranty. After we had our blinds installed in
March 2006, the Manufacturer's Representative and the sales person had to
come to the house three times to fix the blinds so that they functioned
properly. Over the next several months the sales person came alone several
times to fix other blinds that were not working properly. We have never had
so many problems with blinds. They did not charge us a service charge for
these calls but should have according to the sales representative.
We have been waiting since late
December 2006 for the sales representative to call us about a blind that is
broken and still under warranty. She finally called on January 22, 2006 and
told me that we would have to pay a $50.00 service fee to have a technician
look at it. I told her that the Company's policy was not right because the
blind is still under warranty. In addition, we were never charged a service
charge for any prior visits. She explained that it is now the company's
policy to charge a $50.00 service charge. In order to avoid the $50.00
service charge, I have to take down the blind and bring it to the Village
Blind and Shutter store.
So if you do not want to have poor
quality blinds installed and do not want to be charged a $50.00 service
charge to have them fixed, even if they are under warranty, DO NOT HIRE
VILLAGES BLIND AND SHUTTER!

Please warn neighbors to stay away from
Robert Fox DBA as The Gutterman Seamless
Gutters or Fox Gutters. We have really
been burned on this one. At least four
of our neighbors (out of 13 homes on our
cul-de-sac) had work done by Gutterman
Seamless Gutters, so we signed on,
without really doing our homework. I
have since talked to one lady from the
Marion County portion of The Villages
who has received a judgment against him
in small claims court, but she says she
believes she’ll never collect. She said
that Robert Fox is well known to Seniors
Against Crime. I feel really dumb for
not doing our homework, but we are only
out our deposit. I hope our neighbors
never have to use the 5-year guarantee
that was promised.
